NASA Aviation Safety Reporting System (ASRS)

NASA Aviation Safety Reporting System

The ASRS is an important facet of the continuing effort by government, industry, and individuals to maintain and improve aviation safety, collecting voluntarily submitted aviation safety incident/situation reports from pilots, controllers, and others.

Metis supports the ASRS as subcontractor to Booz Allen Hamilton by providing the subject matter experts who analyze voluntarily submitted aviation safety incident reports in order to lessen the likelihood of aviation accidents. We integrate data from directly submitted reports and over 150 ASAP programs. Metis briefs FAA monthly on aviation safety analysis results and trends. We also provide human-factors based research into safety topics, and make significant contributions to program outreach, including the production of the monthly CALLBACK publication: asrs.arc.nasa.gov

ASRS data and analyses are used to:

  • Identify deficiencies and discrepancies in the National Aviation System (NAS).
  • Support policy formulation and planning for, and improvements to the NAS.
  • Strengthen the foundation of aviation human factors safety research.
