NASA Langley Airspace and Traffic Operations Simulation

The NASA Langley Research Center Airspace and Traffic Operations Simulation (ATOS) is a medium to high fidelity air traffic simulation environment developed to explore interactions between aircraft, airspace and ground control. ATOS supports the development and testing of different Air Traffic Management (ATM) concepts that provide a much greater role for the flight crew in ATM decision making. ATOS is capable of simulating several possible configurations of the future communications, navigation and surveillance infrastructure, flight deck systems and advanced crew interfaces. It also serves as a platform for the development of advanced flight guidance and decision support systems.

Metis currently supports ATOS full lifecycle software development as subcontractor to SAIC. Metis software engineers design, maintain and modify aircraft mathematical models and simulation software components. Metis also leads configuration management for ATOS, maintaining the system integration and experiment baselines with software updates from internal and external developers.
