The BioSentinel mission goal is to demonstrate simple model organisms as “biosentinels”.  These will be biologically based sensors flown on nanosatellites to detect hazards to humans, particularly for radiation beyond low Earth orbit.

Sensor data will be used to compare/correlate to physical radiation measurements in order to support development of radiation protection for humans in space, and to inform mitigation strategies and actions

Metis developed mission trajectory concepts to meet the science mission requirements while fitting within the capability of the spacecraft bus. We support mission level trade studies that help define the requirements for the spacecraft bus; such as Earth to spacecraft distance for the telecommunication subsystem and Delta-V requirements for the propulsion system. We documented trades, recommendations, and requirement development in support of Table-Top Reviews and the BioSentinel MCR/SRR.
