TechEdSat is a CubeSat built by San Jose State University students in partnership with NASA Ames Research Center and ÅAC Microtec. Its mission is to evaluate Space Plug-and-play Avionics (SPA) designed in Sweden by ÅAC Microtec, and to perform a communications experiment utilizing the Iridium and Orbcomm satellite phone network.

Metis engineers at NASA Ames who are recent graduates of the San Jose State Engineering department have supported TechEdSat and follow-on projects by providing engineering support, hardware development, integration and test, and flight readiness reviews. We have taught and mentored SJSU students on mission engineering concepts and overseen their participation in TechEdSat tasks. Metis employees have also received 2013 NASA Ames Honor Awards for their work on this project.
