2022 Titan Awards

Metis Technology Solutions has announced the recipients for the company’s 2022 Titan Awards. The Titan Awards recognize employees who made a significant impact on the organization, customer mission, and beyond. The winners for 2022 are: Dr. Peter Zaal for Leadership; Dr. Neal Smith for Innovation; and Mr. Cameron Miksch for Quality.

“I am so pleased to announce and recognize the winners of the 2022 Titan Awards,” said Metis owner and CEO, Dr. Joy Colucci. “The winners of this year’s awards are truly among the leaders in their respective fields. They set a very high standard for leadership, innovation, and quality, and contributed to Metis’s many successes in 2022.”

Dr. Zaal, who works on the SimLabs contract at NASA Ames Research Center (ARC), received his award for mentoring junior colleagues and holding several significant leadership positions in the broader simulation community, including Committee Chair for the AIAA SciTech Forum’s Modeling and Simulation Technical Committee in 2022 and 2023. Dr Zaal also served as the Program Chair for the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) Human-Machine Systems (HMS) 2022 conference. Dr. Smith, working on the Aerospace Testing and Facilities Operations and Maintenance contract at NASA ARC, received his award for advancing research into quiet airplane sonic booms. Among Dr. Smith’s contributions, he pioneered new methods of data analysis for characterization of shock waves, which will one day enable over land supersonic flight. Mr. Miksch, who is a simulation engineer on the Simulation and Aircraft Services Task Order at NASA Langley Research Center, oversaw facility upgrades which significantly increased the quality of simulations performed at the research center, including the Artemis Human Landing System Handling Qualities project.

“At the core of Metis’s successes are all of our employees and the impressive work they perform,” said Dr. Colucci. “It is of upmost importance that we continue to find ways to recognize them and their work, and I look forward to finding additional ways to celebrate their contributions.”

The Titan Awards are only one aspect of a robust employee recognition program in place at Metis: in addition to the Annual Titan Awards, Metis recognizes Quarterly Peer Award winners and spot Star Award winners. Metis’s corporate culture and approach to employee recognition has itself been recognized with several awards, including the 2022 Gold Stevie® for Diversity and Inclusion, HIRE Vets medallions every year between 2022 and 2018, and New Mexico Family Friendly awards every year between 2022 and 2019.
